Since the show ’s ending , buff were hoping for a spinoff of sorts , hopefully following the raw living of the Tucker - Pritchett phratry as they embark to the Midwest from Los Angeles . As fan wait hopefully , rewatching the series on streaming Robert William Service is the best room to become reacquainted with the fictitious character . During each rewatch , unlike characters stand out in ways they did n’t before , some more sympathetic than the last . Despite each character ’s fall or defect , they each have their endearing moment . Even the most obnoxious graphic symbol makes it hard to abhor them entirely because of their sweet-scented moments . Nevertheless , Modern Familyhas some of the serious theatrical role on telly .
Haley Dunphy
Haley Dunphy was a distinctive ego - absorbed , rebellious adolescent who grow up to become , well , a self - engross young adult . The aimless , ditzy party lady friend , Haley struggled to get hold her footing in life . And she was totally obsessed with herself .
Sure , she had some radiate import , and as much asshe mocked her baby Alex , she really loved her . Haley alsochanged somewhatonce she find a steady job and became a ma . But she was still the least likeable of the bunch .
Mitchell Pritchett
Mitchell was highly strung , unsafe , and apparently always meander up about something . He need Cam to ground him or he might have simply spun himself into a tizzy half the time .
He also had a Saratoga chip on his articulatio humeri thanks to his father being absent for much of his childhood and ab initio not accept his sex . A seemingly successful lawyer , Mitchell sometimes seemed out of his league at work . Nevertheless , Mitchell had his loveable present moment as a consecrate forefather , partner , and buddy .
Luke Dunphy
While Luke was a sweet boy who grew into a young man over the course of the show , there was little nub to the character reference . He was the untested Dunphy baby and the one Claire and Phil felt would never amount to anything , which is middling sad .
He wasmore concerned in pulling pranksand being a mischievous kid than analyse at school . By season 11 , Luke got his enactment together and was leaving the nest for the University of Oregon . It would have been nice for fan to see the new , more mature Luke but because they never did , his lack of heart and soul made him unlikable at prison term .
Manny Delgado
Sometimes , Manny could be downright insufferable . Jay could only take so much of him . Manny was arguably smart than a muckle of the rest of the family but also had his queerness . He never was much of a kid and always work like a middle - aged man ( which was what Jay appreciate the most about him ) .
Manny got more annoying as he bugger off quondam and became possessed with theater and his ex-husband - lady friend . And while he had his redeeming moments , he was never really a distinctive kid .
Alex Dunphy
Sure , Alex was snarky and had a holy - than - thou attitude because she was overbold than everyone in the home . ( Yes , her parents let in . ) But there was something appealing about Alex . She was the ultra - smart girl and halfway child who lived in the shadow of her popular , attractive old sister and her tending - seeking young brother , so she rarely got comment because she was capable to cut it on her own .
She lived for sarcasm and often made fun of her entire family — even if none of them ever get down the antic . But as she take old , Alex came into her own and became far more convinced in herself ( and more likable ) .
Jay Pritchett
Asurly old mankind , Jay was fundamentally starting over with a novel family after mould himself to the bone as a unseasoned father and thus never being around his kids . Now retired , he has an attractive young married woman , a new son , a stepson , and grandkids who chatter all the sentence .
When Jay really just wanted to go diddle golf with his friend or unstrain in front of the television watching football game with a glass of scotch , he had to deal with his screwball family . But there was something endear about Jay , despite the fact that he play constantly stung . He would do anything for his syndicate and missed them when they were n’t around .
Gloria Delgado-Pritchett
A fierce charwoman who is proud of her Colombian inheritance and was n’t hold with a silver spoon , Gloriadidn’t take crap from anyone . And while she initially appeared like a stereotypic atomic number 79 digger , it turned out she was anything but and really did have it away Jay and his household .
She kept him in check , smothered Manny , and was there for the family whenever they take her . Her blunt and obstinate mental attitude made her a force to be reckoned with — and a uproarious addition to the show .
Cameron Tucker
Cam was too dramatic , super emotional , and so focused on whatother people retrieve of him . But he was hilarious and fun to be around . He would be the friend TV audience would want to hang out with , though he would also be the one most probable to talk behind someone ’s back .
But Cam also helped Mitchell see the lighter side of situations and rent loose a bit . And while some may say his floridity is a stereotype , he was not afraid to put on a pair of overalls and milk a cow — and had a deep cacoethes for football .
Claire Dunphy
While she was just asuptight and combat injury upas her younger brother , Claire was also the mucilage that accommodate the family together . Giving up her vocation options to come out a family after she make pregnant in college , she work the Dunphy household like a line .
But Claire also made time for herself , doing yoga , drinking wine , and finally hold over her Father-God ’s business for a poor period of fourth dimension once the kids were grown . She was a strong female who tried to do it all . By time of year 11 , she left the kinsfolk business and was branching out with a new company as a passion project .
Phil Dunphy
Phil was hands - down the best character on the show and also the most likable . He was zany and cheesy , told the crippled dad gag , loved magic , embarrassed his kids at every turn , and made Jay roll his eyes always at his girl ’s choice in a married man .
But the kids in secret loved that their dad was so lame , and deep down , Jay knew that Claire picked a good man . Phil knew how to make every situation fun and lite - hearted . And his constantunintended double entendreswere too hilarious for words . RankingModern Familycharacters seems heavy to do , but Phil will always amount out on top .
