Screen Rant : I need to back it up to the first prison term you saw the originalTexas Chainsaw Massacreand what went through your mind . Elsie , do you commend the first time you saw it ?
Elsie Fisher : I think I probably was 12 or 13 and my dad was like , " Hey , look at this cool movie . It looks fun . It ’s from the 70s . " And I ’m like , " Yeah ! yeah ! " And I saw it and I was like [ wide eyes ] . [ It ] changed the trajectory of my life-time , but now in two different way of life . And I suppose that ’s very particular . But mostly traumatise me , but I love it .
Sarah Yarkin : So I do n’t watch horror motion-picture show . I ’m frightened of mostly everything . I ’m frightened of the dark . I do n’t watch them . And so I made a treaty to myself that I was n’t going to force myself to keep an eye on the movies unless I have the character . Then I got the persona and I was like , " I think I got ta watch out this . " And I sat down , and it was appall . I was like , " I ’m gon na go do this . " It ’s also just such a infamous , epic motion-picture show , iconic in so many way . The grain , all of the grit of it . I was really excited but also so traumatized , just holding my dog crying .
To land a function likeThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre , the new one , what do you have to do in your audition ? Did they say , " Hey , countenance ’s listen your scream . You have to scream your head off . " What is that like ?
Sarah Yarkin : There were three scenes , I think , and none of them were really in what we end up shooting . I opine there ’s been a lot of edits . So the three scene , they were n’t screaming . The third scene , I think of , [ Elsie ’s ] grapheme ’s name was another name and I was shout out for her , being worried . But it was n’t the bulk of this moving-picture show , which is me under a bed cry out , yell . It was n’t that . So maybe they just saw me and had a feeling I could thrive in that kind of surroundings . I do n’t know . But it was n’t the majority of the tryout .
Elsie Fisher : First of all , it ’s very interesting to hear about Sarah ’s because I think I make out probably one of the in style in the process because I only auditioned maybe a week and a half out before I was flying out to go fool away it . But I knew it was part of Texas Chainsaw Massacre . But none of my audition face were really the horror part . I conceive they were all drama . It was us walking down the stairs after I ’m with Richter and me say , " I do n’t want to live there . " And I mean perhaps one other one . So then it was very funny because I ’ve done a little mo of horror stuff . But yeah , it was fun .
How did you react when you found out you shoot down the track roles inTexas Chainsaw Massacre ? It ’s such an iconic franchise . the great unwashed love it so much . Elsie , how did you react ? What did you say ? Who did you tell ?
Elsie Fisher : My agentive role called me and she was just like , " You ’re operate to shoot this . " I was super thrilled . Especially just because it ’s always so adorable when you ’re able-bodied to land a movie and body of work just in general . plain , this is a extremely big softwood and very playfulness . But also , it was mid-2020 . I think everyone had pretty much just been locked in their houses for calendar month at this point . So it ’s like , " Oh , my God , I get to go do clobber ? set are even going ? " It was very good and very big and just all those emotions combined .
Sarah Yarkin : I auditioned February 28 , 2020 , and then had been told that it was going my elbow room . But nothing had been signed , and then COVID happened . So then for four month , I kind of go softheaded and lived in a yurt and bought a heel , totally just kick the bucket on an excited roll coaster being like , " Did I just get this epic use or not ? I ’m going crazy . " So then , eventually , months later – it was only delayed a couple calendar month , in reality – it come back around , and I got the call from my broker and I was so sticking and excite that I did get to do the thing that I think I was going to get to do months before , and especially during COVID and getting to trip . We were in Bulgaria and , though we were under all the COVID restrictions , get to be in a new country during COVID while we were n’t even grant to trip anywhere , it was amazing . I was so happy .
You two play sisters . You ’re pip in Bulgaria . How did you bind on your downtime ? Was there anything special that you two did together to solidify your bond ?
Elsie Fisher : I do n’t screw how much downtime we actually end up having . Because I think the both of us were on plant fairly much almost every day of cinematography . There was a lot of sleeping when we were off . And then when we ’re on , just in pilus and makeup getting covered in blood , and fake poo and everything , and just blend crazy , but together , so that was really beautiful . And I call back how most family unit bond anyways , so it felt very genuine .
Sarah Yarkin : Getting covered in stemma together .
Elsie Fisher : Yeah , yeah . That ’s what me and my brother always do .
Sarah Yarkin : It was a passing rigorous shooting schedule . So when we were n’t shooting , I was trying to take a pass or kip . But there were these Nox , Elsie and I had these retentive night shoots under the rain machine in wintertime going unbalanced , lose our judgement , covered in stock and glycerol and soaking wet and some poop and all the element and keeping each other–
Elsie Fisher : The four elements ! [ laugh ]
Sarah Yarkin : I know you kept me sane a lot of that , and awake and not freeze by doing morsel over and over .
Elsie Fisher : Yeah . That ’s all I can do . They do n’t hire me because I ’m good . They rent me because I ’m funny off - camera . I ’m the court fool of films .
I got ta say your Twitter is uproarious . truly , very peculiar .
Elsie Fisher : give thanks you very much . It ’s my magnum opus . It ’s the good thing I will ever reach . And it ’s really bad and I ’m beaming you care it . Thank you .
It ’s great . Now , Leatherface . We get ta talk about Leatherface , obviously , one of the freakiest horror villains of all time/ What were your fundamental interaction with Mark Burnham between takes ? Was he freaky on set or does he strike out of character ?
Sarah Yarkin : There was n’t much hang out . I mean , particularly with COVID poppycock . it was kind of like , ' I ’m sound to my domain and he ’s going to his . " He ’s such a predominate figure . It was , no matter what we did off coif , peach or not , he ’s going to be appall . That mask , it ’s horrify .
Elsie Fisher : I think there was n’t probably a lot of taking the masquerade on and off . Because I believe there was a whole process . I mean , we just stayed in regular blood and he had this whole thing on him . So I ’m indisputable it ’s a lot to deal with . I did talk to him on our woodworking plane ride into the body politic , though , before we startle sprout and it was very sweet because we tie over me having a Christian Bible of Bulgarian phrases or something to hear and familiarise myself with the country and the language . So he was very nice . I call back we just did n’t get to talk too much because there was a whole deal of stuff going on .
Now , Sarah , you ’re part of another horror fave , theHappy Death Dayfranchise . It ’s one of my favorite . There have been rumblings for years about the third installment , but now it feel like it ’s actually kind of close / maybe happening ? There keeps being hints . Have you see anything ?
Sarah Yarkin : No but say me more ! What ? I would have it away it .
You know , Jason Blum does interviews and every once in a while people say , " Where’sHappy Death Day 3 ? " and he keeps saying , " It ’s make out . " But no timeline . No thought .
Sarah Yarkin : I ’ll call Chris [ Landon ] and be like , " Yo , what ’s up ? " I ’m really close with Rachel Matthews and I ’m still in pinch with the whole cast . It was such an incredible experience and we constantly are like , " Do we guess we ’re gon na get to do another ? " It was just fun hang out . It feel fun . But again , that was a horror - clowning . It was such a different experience , I will say , dash this motion-picture show versus that , because that was fun and games and I do n’t think of even being in a chilling part of the movie .. and this was not fun and games . [ laugh ] .
Elsie Fisher : Yeah , very acute .
Do you have a favored Easter testis in the movie that eagle - eyed sports fan should be watching out for ?
Elsie Fisher : There were a raft of small fictional character choice I in spades made to try and be like , " hoo hoo hoo . " The one Easter Egg that does come to beware that ’s kind of fun is – I do n’t know if it ’s an Easter Egg – I get to pick up a cowhand hat at the end and put it on , and that was my idea and it was pretty fun . It ’s a minuscule snatch of a point of reference to David Blue Garcia , the managing director ’s , last pic , so that was kind of fun to splice that in .
Sarah Yarkin : I think this is an Easter eggs , I ’m not sure if it count as an Easter egg , in the theater , there ’s a flick theater of operations scene , and David Blue Garcia , his moving-picture show , Tejano , they were able-bodied to print his flick post horse inside the theater and your character walks by it , which I think is exceedingly funny .
And then also , I do n’t recognize if you point out this Elsie , [ … ] when Shin is agree [ his phone ] and he ’s like , " If you do this you ’re gon na get canceled " or whatever on the bus , holding his sound and you see the Instagram Live and the name are like Fede and–
Elsie Fisher : Oh also that ’s an Easter orchis though . Shin , the chief guy wire on the omnibus who has the phone , is one of our producers , and he was with us the whole time and it was hilarious that he ’s in this .
